Introducing the all-new Volvo XC40, the company has extended its SUV line-up. The crossover entry-level has been positioned below the Volvo XC90 and the Volvo XC60. Thus, Volvo XC40 is the third model in company’s SUV series. This supercar is also the Swedish carmaker’s grabbing on the Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3. The all-new Volvo remains reliable in styling to the last year’s 40.1 concepts but with only a few changes. Therefore, the most noticeable change was made in its door mirrors.
The hood of Volvo XC40 is designed in clamshell and the D-pillar was designed as a floating roof. Volvo XC40 also shares the similar design language with XC90 and XC60 along with a big touchscreen, which leads the uncluttered and simplified center console. However, the cabin of Volvo XC40 renders a more casual look than its siblings. Volvo XC40 is basically a crossover, so the basic black cladding is featured around its front, wheel arches, rear bumper and side skirts. Tail lights of this super featured SUV are designed just like its elder siblings. Interestingly, XC40 is considered as the first Volvo developed on the latest Compact Modular Architecture and co-developed by Geely, Volvo’s Chinese owner. Volvo further declares that CMA, for this particular segment is rendering all required economies of scale.
Interior of Volvo XC40 is equipped with 9-inch infotainment system that can be bordered by vertical air-con vents, which comes with smartphone integration. It is further designed with a heated steering wheel, power front passenger seat, high-performance audio system and heated front seats as well. However, the detailed engine list of this super featured car is yet to get unveiled. But Volvo assures that the range will include Volvo’s new three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo gasoline unit along with Drive-E four-cylinder engines. That will potentially power faster models. Volvo XC40 is further expected to get featured with an electric motor, twin-engine plug-in hybrid variant to the all-new 8-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, cap-less fuel filling, and 3-cylinder engine. Hence, all this will get probably badge as the T5 in the all-new Volvo XC40.
The instrument cluster of Volvo XC40 is featured with 12.30inch TFT digital display and the layout is overall designed in classy and subtle along with perfect material choice. There is ample storage space inside the cabin of XC40 along with options of induction phone charging. Irrespective of its extraordinary features, this super featured Volvo is designed with total safety as well as equipment. Driver assistance and safety features of Volvo XC40 includes- run-off-road migration and protection, city safety, cross traffic support with 360° camera and brake support, and Pilot Assist system as well. Hence, evaluating this segments Volvo XC40 is one of the best made and featured SUV crossovers.
Volvo XC40 is also expected to get powered with all-wheel drive system. Production of Volvo XC40 will begin this November at Belgium. Once Volvo XC40 is set for sale on the international market will surely create its own demand among car enthusiasts. Volvo may also locally assemble the crossover at their India’s upcoming production factory. Therefore, comparing with Volvo’s direct rivals, the prices of this super featured car are expected to remain competitive. Hence, Volvo XC40 is expected to get retailed almost between Rs. 35 to 45lakhs.
Volvo XC40 is expected to go on for sale surely next year. And with its release is expected to throw a high competition to crossovers like Audi Q2 and BMW X2.
